Paul Phillips - Tributes and Memories

"I had the privilege of being a student of Paul Phillips at the South Sligo Summer School in the Summer of 2006. I went to look him up and tell him how I was getting on with what he taught me. He also pointed me in the direction of a great drum maker (Seamus O'Kane) who I now have a drum from (Paul would be pleased to know). I really enjoyed Paul, he was a great man and a great teacher, he made you feel good about what you could do and would help you to imporve on it. I am deeply saddened and shocked , I don't really know how to describe it. It seems like only a few days ago I was sitting in the classroom in Tubbercurry having a class and of course with Paul you would always have a laugh. I am in America and I guess that is why I did not get wind of this till now. I feel very fortunate to have met and been taught by Paul. He was a great lad and he will be missed. My old bodhran, the one I had at the time when Paul was teaching me, is signed by him, he put his signature on the inside of it. Very special, especially now. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. You need not worry Paul will never be forgotten, only celebrated, now and whenever and wherever the Irish heartbeat is heard. Paul's spirit will live on in the legacy he made. For what we do in life echoes in eternity."
